About

My name is Anita Kane. I'm a qualified and accredited psychodynamic counsellor working in private practice in Dursley, Gloucestershire.

After graduating with a degree in English Literature I subsequently qualified as a commercial pilot and worked for a number of years as a flight instructor.

My motivation to become a counsellor followed my own experience of analysis, which provided an insight into the enormous potential for positive change that can come about through psychological reflection within a therapeutic relationship. I now work with others who are looking to relocate a sense of meaning in their lives, or who are facing difficulties that counselling can help with.

Whatever brings you to counselling - whether it's a specific issue or something more generalised that may be difficult to name - I offer a professional, supportive, non-judgmental setting where you're free to explore your thoughts, feelings and reflections for as long as you feel the need.

My diploma in psychodynamic counselling is accredited by the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC).

I am an Online & Telephone certified counsellor.

I maintain strict confidentiality and strong professional boundaries.

My approach

My approach to counselling is collaborative. Since no two people are the same, it follows that your sessions will be unique to you. You’re welcome to bring anything creative that you feel may further your process - such as artwork, journals, music, writing or dreams - although there is no requirement to do so.

It's not uncommon for there to be a natural psychological resistance to exploring difficult emotions and making changes. The mind is very skilled at finding ways to keep things exactly as they are! So as well as being here to support and encourage you I will also offer a gentle challenge.

I won’t offer solutions or advice; the answers to the challenges we face are to be found not outside of us but from the unique wisdom within. Where it’s become difficult to access that wisdom I offer a professional, therapeutic relationship with the aim of enabling you to reconnect with it.
